Rob Degres holds a Bachelor’s degree in music from the Berklee College of Music, and a Master’s degree in Music from the University of Massachusetts. He has studied with Jon Damian, Rick Peckham, Jim Kelly, and Bob Ferrier. As a guitar teacher at Gerry’s Music Shop, Rob enjoys taking a student who has never played before and watching them become accomplished on their instrument.
Rob wants his students to have a solid background in reading music, playing chords, soloing and music theory so that they can continue to play after lessons are over and be able to play several styles of music. This philosophy is clearly represented in Rob’s musical influences – Jimi Hendrix, John Coltrane, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jeff Beck, the Beatles, Mike Stern, John Scofield, Eddie Van Halen, and Led Zepplin.
He currently plays with two groups, Brass Attack and 4Now. Previously, Rob has played with members of “Beatlemania,” and he has composed and performed music for the documentary “A Tree Grows in Springfield.” He lives in South Hadley with his wife Gretchen and his daughter Kiera. When asked about his most embarrassing moment, Rob could not comment without incriminating himself.
