Amarie King

Amarie King is a freelance flutist and teacher from the New England region. She graduated with a Master of Music from Boston Conservatory at Berklee in 2019 and has since been working as a teaching artist with the Empire State Youth Orchestra. She is now pursuing her Teaching Licensure in K-12 music at UMass Amherst, with the aspiration of becoming a classroom music teacher.

While studying music intensely at the Conservatory Amarie had the chance to work with many celebrated musicians and teachers, including Ann Bobo, Fernando Brandeis, and Bruce Hangen, as well as renowned flutists Lorna McGhee, Linda Toote, Carol Wincenc and Barbara Siesel. She has performed at such venues including Sanders Theater at Harvard and Symphony Hall. In 2016 Amarie traveled to the beautiful oasis of Domaine Forget, a nature-centered flute festival that takes place in the mountains of Quebec. While there she had the opportunity to work with world-famous flutists Emannuel Pahud and Denis Bouriakov, as well as Canadian flutists Susan Hoeppner and Camille Churchfield.

Amarie graduated from The College of Saint Rose in May 2017, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in music with a concentration in flute performance and a minor in music business. Her colleagues and mentors at Saint Rose were some of the warmest and kindest she has had the honor to work with. Learning from them she has come to approach teaching with the same knowledge, dedication, purpose, compassion and spirit that she was given at Saint Rose. These words are the catalysts that have helped her form her teaching philosophy.

Amarie approaches teaching with the motto that the student always comes first. She aims to build not just their musical abilities but also their confidence. She encourages they play for family and friends, as well as in recitals. Amarie also believes that hard work and dedication is a key ingredient to honing their craft. Amarie hopes to bring her love of music and teaching to the students at Gerry’s Music Shop.
