Samantha Levreault

Dr. Samantha Levreault holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Flute Performance and a Certificate in Musicology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She also earned a Master of Music in Flute Performance and a Music History Pedagogy Certificate from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Her undergraduate education includes a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from Mount Holyoke College. Her formal training emphasizes both high-level musical performance and thoughtful, research-informed approaches to music education.
Her musical influences are broad and cross-genre. While her formal training is rooted in classical flute performance, she draws inspiration from musicians across classical, popular, folk, and experimental traditions. She is particularly influenced by artists who approach music with curiosity, creativity, and a strong sense of storytelling, as well as educators who make music history and theory engaging and accessible to diverse learners.

Dr. Levreault’s teaching philosophy centers on curiosity, accessibility, and lifelong learning. She believes that every student brings valuable experiences and perspectives into the learning space, and she aims to help students build confidence while developing strong musical foundations. Her teaching emphasizes clear goals, healthy technique, and creativity, while encouraging students to explore music beyond a single genre or tradition. She believes that learning music should be challenging, rewarding, and enjoyable.

She has performed in a wide range of academic, chamber, and collaborative settings throughout her education and professional career, including university ensembles, chamber groups, and solo performance contexts. Her work spans traditional classical repertoire as well as interdisciplinary and educational projects, including the development of a music history video game prototype as part of her doctoral research.

Dr. Levreault currently lives in South Hadley, Massachusetts, and is a remote faculty member at Mitchell Community College in Statesville, North Carolina, where she teaches Music Appreciation. During her doctoral studies, she also served as Instructor of Flute at MCC. Outside of music, she enjoys learning new skills, gardening, and spending time with her cats. She values community, curiosity, and balance in both her personal life and teaching practice.

She enjoys teaching at Gerry’s Music Shop because local music stores play an essential role in nurturing creativity and community connection. She values the opportunity to support students in a welcoming environment that prioritizes personal growth, musical discovery, and joy.

One of Dr. Levreault’s most exciting musical experiences was learning to program in Unreal Engine and creating a music history video game prototype for her doctoral dissertation. Combining music, technology, and storytelling pushed her far outside her comfort zone and reinforced the value of being a beginner—an experience that continues to inform and enrich her approach to teaching.
