Josh Salazar
Josh is the newest addition to Gerry’s teaching staff. Josh recently moved to the area with his wife, Evelyn, their dog, Watson, and two cats, Tango and Puck. Formerly from Nashville, TN, they are happy to be back up north and continuing to share their love and talents for music! Josh completed both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Belmont University in Nashville where he studied both classical guitar and classical piano with a focus on composition.
Josh finds musical influence through a variety of genres, though his earliest influences include James Taylor and The Eagles. Josh has immersed himself in genres ranging from classical to symphonic metal, and everything in between! Josh has performed with a number of ensembles including the Belmont Guitar Ensemble and the Belmont New Music Ensemble. Josh has had the privilege of recording with notable artists such as Aubryn, Will Padgett, Lucid Dream, Steve McClain, and has even recorded a number of solo projects.
Josh finds that learning any instrument is about balancing the exercises with the fun material that makes you want to keep playing! As a technique-focused teacher, Josh strives to find fun ways to work on technique with the end goal of playing fun repertoire. Josh’s favorite thing about teaching is getting to share the artform he loves with others, and to support others in developing their own love for music. His grandfather said it best – music is meant to be shared, not hoarded. As such, Josh finds that teaching is a wonderful way to share his talents while also helping others to share their own.
