Sam Boswell
Sam Boswell grew up in Rhode Island, where he learned to play tuba in 6th grade. He received his undergraduate degree in Tuba Performance from Boston Conservatory, and continued his education by receiving a masters degree in Tuba Performance from McGill University. After graduating college, Sam moved to Massachusetts to pursue more work within the music industry.
Before joining the staff at Gerry’s Music Shop, Sam worked at several music stores throughout New England, learning repair skills and techniques through apprenticeship opportunities. Sam is the primary brass instrument repair technician at Gerry’s specializing in low brass instruments and trombone hand slides. In addition to his dedicated work here in the Shop, Sam is also an Assistant Professor of Brass Repair at Berklee College of Music. One of his favorite aspects of repairing instruments is removing particularly large bell dents – “it is always satisfying to make the bells look good again”.
Sam’s favorite department in the Music Shop is “the repair department, of course, it is by far the most fun!” Sam’s most embarrassing moment was getting blown over on a particularly windy day while playing sousaphone during a high school half-time show.
