Trumpeters for Taps

 In News

Gerry’s Music Shop is a family owned, local music store servicing school districts and supporting music education across Massachusetts and Connecticut. As a local resource for musical expertise, we are often contacted with inquiries for musicians (trumpet or bugle players) to play Taps and other ceremonial pieces at funerals, holiday ceremonies, or church services. As a small business with an interest in supporting local communities, as well as local musicians, we hope to create a list of qualified young musicians to recommend when the opportunities arise. Your musical services could be provided on a volunteer basis, or with a suggested donation of up to $50.00 to support your music education. Please see below information on how to get involved.

Application for Students:

  1. Practice playing Taps, ask a teacher for help!
  2. Prepare an audio recording as an audition.
  3. Go to our website and use the CONTACT US option to submit your recording

Upon Acceptance, Gerry’s Music will:

  1. Provide an instructional lesson with an area professional for authenticity and quality of performance
  2. Provide Business cards
  3. Give out your contact information for requests for trumpeters

After Acceptance and Training, the student should:

  1. Give out your cards to everyone you know – Churches, Funeral Homes, Soldiers Homes, Senior Centers, Town Hall, Schools – get the word out that you are a trumpet player for ceremonies like Memorial Day or Veteran’s Day, or even funerals and church services.
  2. Learn a few more tunes just in case – like God Bless America, My Country Tis of Thee, or You’re a Grand Old Flag – maybe even the National Anthem.
  3. If you are asked to play at an event, be sure to ask what time you should be there and what time you will play. Be sure to plan travel time.
  4. You can play for free, or suggest a $25.00 or $50.00 donation to your music education if they offer payment.
